Do you remember? Avatar had a game developed by Ubisoft in 2009
James Cameron’s movie, do you remember? Avatar had a game developed by Ubisoft and was released in 2009, as well as his game that is available for PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. There were also other smaller titles for Android, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii and PSP. During this period it was very common that movies had their own game adaptations, and with an approximate release.
A slightly different story
The game’s story takes place in 2152, two years before the event’s events. You stay in control of a soldier who has an Avatar Na’vi and performs several missions. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the plot of the game does not fit the movie and there are contradictions, but that does not disturb the experience.
The main character is Able Rider, which will have this name independent of the genre, as at the beginning of gameplay it is possible to select predefined appearances of both sexes. From there you develop your gameplay the way you find it best.
You can play with humans, controlling soldiers and using weapons, or with the Na’vi, who are endowed with a lot of physical strength, can use firearms and still control some forces of nature, invoking animals and doing other feats.
You need to choose one side, the Na’vi or the RDA. This will define your gameplay, whether with humans or using the avatar, and change the story a little. When choosing a path, be aware that there will be consequences for your enemies and allies.
was the game a disappointment?
Far from it. Of course, it is not possible to say that it was a great success and a milestone in the history of games, but it sold more copies than expected and did not have negative audience or critical feedback.
Nevertheless, the title also did not get such a positive return, as development is a bit empty and its release was something more impulsive to follow the success of the movie.
