Arnold Clark Cup: Schüller directed DFB

Lea Schüller has preserved the German footballers in front of a false start to the EM year. At the Vienna Tournament in England, the scorer of Master Bayern Munich shot the replacement DFB selection in the 88th minute for late 1: 1 (0: 0) against the highly traded Spaniards, which at least partially build up.

Lea Schüller clapped her teammates with a broad grin, and national coarin Martina Voss-Tecklenburg smiled relieved. The late compensation of the Bayern scorer (88th) against the strong Spaniards felt almost like a victory for replacement of German footballers at the start of the EM year.

“We are really looking forward to the draw. The Spaniards played very well,” said Schüller after the 1-1 (0: 0) for the kick-off of the Vornationurnier in England, “in the end was only the goal, somehow a gateway shoot.” The striker took over the striker and achieved her 24th hits in the 35th country.

The Spanish world footballer Alexia Putellas (46th) had previously used a Patzer of Defense Chef Lena Oberdorf to guide. Voss-Tecklenburg then praised her “very strong” number one Merle Frohms and the mentality of her young team: “With the attitude and courage at the end I am very satisfied. We also made mistakes, but we take a lot with you.”

For reunion with Spain it comes in the summer at the euro, which takes place in England. On July 12, Spain is the second group opponent of the Recordenuropeister. The Arnold Clark Cup continues for DFB women on Sunday (21.15 clock) against Olympic champion Canada in Norwich. On Wednesday (20.30 clock), Wolverhampton hosts England.

Before the match in the Riverside Stadium of Middlesbrough, the national trainer Martina Voss-Tecklenburg had praised the Spanish selection as “currently the best team” and “benchmark in many areas”. Quite unlike Jorge Vilda, Voss-Tecklenburg had to compensate for the absence of 14 EM candidates due to injuries or Corona.

Putellas uses Oberdorf-Patzer

In a faded encounter, the DFB team developed with a lot of Spanish possession through good pressing and fast switching at the beginning more goal danger. The wingers Jule Brand (4.) and Klara Bühl (15th), however, gave the first occasions.

In the usual 4-3-3 basic order, the German selection then continued to push back to the rear and lost a few times the access. Lucia Garcia (34.) almost used such negligence.

The fell immediately after the break, caused by a committed clarification action of the 20-year old Oberdorf (VfL Wolfsburg), which hit the ball only with the tibia in the penalty area. Putellas switched quickly and met with puppets over goalkeeper Merle Frohms into the gate.

After the residue, the DFB team was barely from one’s own half. After about 20 minutes, the Germans found again better in the game, according to the beautiful Bavaria combination about Maximiliane Rall and Schüller then missed Lina Magull from a short distance (72nd) the compensation.

It went back and forth: On the other side, Frohms directed a shot of Garcia (76th) to the crossbar – then Schüller met late to the rejuvenated compensation.
